Strict requirements for marking products with “eco” and “bio”

It should be noted that “voluntary” certificates are becoming outdated, since only state laboratories are accredited to issue them.

This is a real big step in product control, now if you see the ECO label, you can be sure that the product has actually passed tests and checks.

The changes concern the law on organic products and add new terms to existing designations, such as “biodynamic”, “environmentally friendly”, “green” and others. Previously, the list of acceptable designations included only the word “organic”.

According to new rules, manufacturers will be able to apply the label only if they have a supporting certificate that indicates compliance with organic production standards.

Exceptions are also described, in which labeled goods may not meet the new requirements. For example, the word “green” can be used to designate a color, and “bio” – within the framework established by technical regulations.

The law will come into force on September 1, 2024 and will allow the use of such marks only until the expiration date of products released earlier.
