Global Location Number

GLN – Global Location Number or Global identification number. This is an international code that can be used to accurately and concisely determine the location of legal entities, their functional units and physical objects – warehouses, shops, production facilities, transport units.
GLN code consists of 13 digits. The national code (prefix) is always found first, consisting of two or three digits.

GLN code must be unique.

Today the GS1 Association deals with the issues of accounting and barcoding. GS1 has representative offices all over the world, including Russia.

When does the GLN (Global Location Number) code apply?
In general, there are four main use cases for GLN identification:

• to define a legal entity;
• for the actual location of the object;
• to determine the function of the object;
• for digital location.

If the GLN code is used in the Certification, it is needed to identify the location of a foreign manufacturer.
In 2021, the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of June 19, 2021 No. 936 “On the procedure for registration, suspension, renewal and termination of declarations of conformity, invalidation and the procedure for suspension, renewal and termination of the validity of certificates of conformity, invalidation” was adopted , which, among other things, determines the procedure for specifying when registering declarations of conformity UNP / GLN (unique company number / Global Location Number, global location number, hereinafter – GLN) and the international GTIN code (Global Trade Item Number, hereinafter – GTIN).

The Resolution determines that in the application for registration of the declaration of conformity, it is necessary to indicate the name and location of the manufacturer of the products, the address (addresses) of the places (places) of the activities for the manufacture of products, including the indication of GLN. This rule applies to products manufactured outside the territory of the Russian Federation and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

In the absence of information about the GLN, another individual identifier may be indicated in the application, which automatically identifies the address (addresses) of the place (s) of the production activity.

The application may indicate the geographic (geocentric) coordinates (latitude, longitude) of the place (s) of the place (s) of the production activity, determined by the signals from the GLONASS Global Navigation Satellite System, in the absence of a GLN code or other type of identification of the production address.

As for the GTIN, it is indicated in the application for registration of the declaration, if available and at the option of the applicant in the information about the object of the declaration, which allows it to be identified.
