Smartphones are an integral part of modern life, and their certification in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an important step in ensuring the safety and quality of products. In this article, we will consider the main aspects of smartphone certification within the framework of the EAEU Technical Regulations, including requirements, the certification process, necessary documents and marking features.

What is TR EAEU 020 and why is it needed?

TR EAEU 020/2011 “Electromagnetic compatibility of technical equipment” is one of the key technical regulations governing the certification of electronic devices, including smartphones. You can read more about this regulation at the link.

Certification of smartphones within the framework of TR EAEU 020 is mandatory for all manufacturers and importers wishing to sell their products in the territory of the EAEU countries (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan). Along with this regulation, compliance with other technical regulations may be required, for example, TR EAEU 037/2016 “On restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and radio electronic products”.

EAC Certification: Key Stages

EAC certification is the process of confirming the conformity of products with the requirements of the technical regulations of the EAEU. The EAC certificate of conformity is an official document that confirms the safety and quality of smartphones. The main stages of certification include:

  1. Determining the list of applicable regulations. Depending on the characteristics of the smartphone, compliance with several technical regulations may be required.
  2. Preparation of documents. The manufacturer or importer must prepare a full package of documents (we will talk about them below).
  3. Testing. Smartphones undergo laboratory testing in accredited bodies for compliance with the requirements of the EAEU TR.
  4. Registration of the certificate. After successful completion of the tests, the EAC certificate of conformity is issued.
  5. Product marking. Smartphones are marked with the EAC sign, which confirms their compliance with the requirements of the regulations.

Documents required for smartphone certification

To successfully pass certification, you must prepare the following documents:

  1. Technical documentation:
  • Operation manual.
  • Technical characteristics of the device.
  • Electrical and design solutions diagrams.
  1. Documents for products:
  • Contract with the manufacturer (if you are an importer).
  • Certificates or declarations of conformity for components (if any).
  1. Product samples:
  • Smartphones for testing in the laboratory.

Test reports (if available):

  • If tests have previously been conducted in other countries or organizations.
  1. Application
  • A document confirming the intention to undergo certification.
  1. Information about the manufacturer:
  • Registration data of the manufacturer.
  1. Information about the TN VED code:
  • Customs code of products to determine the category of goods.

EAC marking:

After successfully passing certification, smartphones must be marked with the EAC sign. The EAC marking is a mandatory element confirming the compliance of products with the requirements of the technical regulations of the EAEU. The sign is applied to the packaging, the device body or in the documentation for the product. The absence of marking may lead to a ban on the sale of products in the territory of the EAEU countries.
