Certification of children’s clothing is an important process that ensures that products comply with established quality and safety standards. In the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, certification of children’s clothing is regulated by the technical regulations of the Customs Union (TR CU).

Children’s clothing is a special category of products that requires increased attention to safety issues. The child’s body is more sensitive to the effects of external factors, such as chemicals, textile dyes and materials. Therefore, certification of children’s clothing is aimed at protecting children’s health and preventing possible risks.

The main objectives of certification:

  • Ensuring the safety of materials and components used in production.
  • Confirmation of product compliance with established quality standards.
  • Strengthening consumer confidence in the manufacturer or supplier.

In the EAEU countries, certification of children’s clothing is mandatory. This means that products cannot be legally sold on the territory of the union without the appropriate document.

Certification of children’s clothing in the EAEU countries is carried out in accordance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of products for children and adolescents” (TR CU 007/2011). This regulation establishes mandatory requirements for the quality and safety of products for children, including clothing.

Key requirements of TR CU 007/2011:

  1. Safety of materials: fabrics, threads, fittings and other elements must be made of safe materials that do not contain toxic substances.
  2. Hygienic indicators: products must comply with standards for air permeability, hygroscopicity and color fastness.
  3. Physical and mechanical characteristics: children’s clothing must be durable, wear-resistant and not create dangerous situations.

In addition, the certification takes into account the age characteristics of children. For example, the requirements for clothing for newborns differ from the requirements for clothing for teenagers.

What documents are required for certification?

To pass the certification procedure, the manufacturer or supplier must provide the following package of documents:

  • Application.
  • Technical documentation for products (technical conditions, specifications, etc.).
  • Product samples for testing.
  • Certificates for the materials and components used (if available).
  • Documents confirming the origin of the products (for example, a contract or invoice).

The certification process for children’s clothing includes several stages:

  1. Submission of an application. The manufacturer or importer submits an application to an accredited certification body with the required package of documents attached.
  2. Sample testing. Selected product samples undergo laboratory testing for compliance with the requirements of TR CU 007/2011. The laboratory checks the chemical composition of the materials, physical properties and hygienic indicators.
  3. Evaluation of test results. Based on the laboratory research data, the certification body makes a decision on issuing a certificate.
  4. Issuance of a certificate of conformity. If the product meets all the requirements of the regulation, the applicant is issued a certificate of conformity. This document confirms the legal right to sell the product on the territory of the EAEU.
  5. Product labeling. After receiving the certificate, the clothing must be labeled with the EAEU market circulation mark (EAC). This mark indicates that the product complies with the requirements of technical regulations.

The absence of a certificate of conformity for children’s clothing can lead to serious consequences for the manufacturer or supplier:

  • Ban on the sale of products.
  • Penalties from regulatory authorities.
  • Deterioration of the company’s reputation.

In addition, the sale of uncertified products can harm the health of children, which is unacceptable from an ethical and legal point of view.
